Seattle decides it can do just fine without pro basketball. While I think the city is right, I'm curious if the Times' exceptionally snarky and not very well reported dispatch represents a new conventional wisdom about the value of sports franchises to cities. With the football 49ers announcing their intention to move, Senator Dianne Feinstein and House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi pressure the team to stay. We'll see what muscle, if any, Pelosi can put behind her declaration that it is "unacceptable for the 49ers to leave San Francisco."
Corrupt and content Mayor Street is out at the end of his term, and Philly's gearing up for a street fight.
