Quick Hits-Sports Shakedowns

  • Seattle decides it can do just fine without pro basketball. While I think the city is right, I'm curious if the Times' exceptionally snarky and not very well reported dispatch represents a new conventional wisdom about the value of sports franchises to cities.
  • With the football 49ers announcing their intention to move, Senator Dianne Feinstein and House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi pressure the team to stay. We'll see what muscle, if any, Pelosi can put behind her declaration that it is "unacceptable for the 49ers to leave San Francisco."
  • Corrupt and content Mayor Street is out at the end of his term, and Philly's gearing up for a street fight.
